Bloom Ring — an Expanding Fidget A little twist. A satisfying bloom. Bloom Ring opens from a compact spiral into a wide ring, then folds back again. Its curved arms move together through concealed hinges, keeping the focus on the flowing flower shape and motion. Simple to print, fun to personalize Prints in place — no assembly or separate connectors. No supports needed. Two colors with just one color change — a change between layers creates the contrasting arms and lower structure. Mostly hidden connections give it a clean, sculptural appearance. Inspired by a blossom The overlapping curved arms recall flower petals spreading as a blossom opens. Bloom Ring translates that unfolding idea into a repeatable mechanical motion you can explore with your hands. After printing Bloom Ring is printed fully contracted. Let it cool down first and then open it outward—do not force it smaller. Some hinges may need extra effort to release the first time, depending on your printer and filament. Put both index fingers through the center opening and gently push outward to begin freeing the hinges. Apply pressure gradually rather than forcing a stuck joint. What colors will your Bloom Ring be? New: Bloom Ring Grand Duo A bigger bloom. A more dramatic transformation. Bloom Ring Grand Duo combines long, sweeping petals with Duo’s three-layer construction: matching top and bottom arms surrounding a contrasting middle layer. It expands from approximately 280 mm to 460 mm across, making it the largest member of the Bloom Ring collection. Prints in place · No supports · Two colors with only two color changes Before printing Clean the build plate thoroughly and watch the first three layers closely. This is a long print, and those early layers are critical. If anything lifts or fails to stick, stop and resolve it before continuing. Once those layers print cleanly, it has printed reliably in my testing. After printing Let the ring and build plate cool completely before removing it or trying the mechanism for the first time. Gently expand the ring to get the pivots moving, then work it back and forth through a small range, gradually increasing the movement as the joints loosen. Take care near full expansion. Until all the joints have been worked in, the ring can be difficult to compress again. Avoid forcing it fully open on the first movement, and never force a stiff joint. New: Bloom Ring Duo Two matching faces. The same satisfying bloom. Bloom Ring Duo adds a third layer, sandwiching the middle arms between matching top and bottom arms. The result is a fuller profile with the same flowing appearance from either side. New: Bloom Ring Ripple A new wave in the Bloom Ring collection. Ripple gives the arms a gently undulating shape, creating a flowing, petal-like pattern as the ring opens and closes. Shown here in Sunflower Colors—yellow, orange, and deep red over a dark brown base—or try your own color combination.
